Supercross-Finals In Vegas....
So as you know, I'm here in Las Vegas visiting my cousin and for Supercross Finals. So today was the day....Jen's(my cousin) boyfriend was in a poker tournament for the charity for the riders, he won a bag that had 2 VIP Pit Passes. So today he had to go to Reno and Sacramento for another tournament but we went to Supercross. We didn't get there in time to see all the riders, but we got all kinds of merchandise. shirts, hats, jerseys...you name it we probably have it...within reason. :) anyway, when we went to our seats (where ever the VIP Pass let us in.) we found out that it was right in the middle of the track! Right in the middle..it was crazy. It was also right next to the podium platform. So when the riders won their race, they would come to that thing and I would stand there and take pictures...work out perfectly. I have some many pictures with some many of the riders! Its crazy! I didn't get Justin Barcia like I had wanted to but that was fine...the seats made up for it. But I did get a pictures with this hott British guy, who is single, my age, and totally sweet! But yet again he has no idea who in the world I am, but whatever! :D Its my favorite picture!!
People I saw-(at the podium)
Ryan Dungey
Chad Reed
Kevin Windham
Davi Millsaps
Justin Brayton
Nick Wey
Josh Hansen
Thomas Hahn
I dont know, alot more, but I cant think of their names...sad. I wasnt in time for the signing and pictures with Justin Barcia, who I really wanted but its ok, Max Anstie made up for it. :D
I got a picture with-
Max Anstie
Kevin Windham
Kenny "The Cowboy" Bartrum
There was lot of pictures of Dungey, Windham, Reed, Hasen, Purceal(?) lots of riders. It was pretty fun! loved every minute!! :)
Danny "Magoo" Chandler
Danny “Magoo” Chandler died May 4th as a result of illnesses related to paralysis. The Hall of Fame rider was 50 years old.
The Sacramento, California native was known for his wild style and wide-open charge. Magoo was a fan favorite from the time he turned professional in 1976. His first real success came with a top-10 finish in the 1981 125cc Motocross Nationals.
He signed with factory Honda in 1982 and began the biggest year of his career. Perhaps the most memorable victory was claiming the U.S. 500cc Motocross Grand Prix. Besting the Europeans at Carlsbad Raceway that day notched his name in the history books. He furthered his international fame by winning every 250cc moto at the ’82 Trophies des Nations in Germany, and every 500cc moto at the Motocross des Nations in Switzerland – the only rider ever to achieve the feat. He also won the ABC Wide World of Sports Superbikers race, which was essentially the first event of what we now call Supermoto.
Magoo went on to finish third in the AMA 500cc series in ’83 but suffered through ’84 with injuries. He switched to the World Motocross Championship in 1985, ultimately settling with an Italian Kawasaki team, but a crash at the Paris Supercross in December of 1985 left him paralyzed.
~~~~
Following the accident, Chandler embarked on a mission to help spread motorcycle safety, particularly to young riders. Other endeavors included race promotion for mountain bikes and cooperation with the DARE drug awareness program.
The industry has been hard at work to provide Danny with a specially equipped vehicle to make it easier for him to travel and conduct his seminars. The Danny Magoo Chandler Van Fund was completed and the project finalized on May 4, the same day as his death.
Magoo was an amazing person and an inspirational roll model for young riders. Hes shown us how to win and how to lose. He's my hero....forever. Hes that type of person that once he's in your life, he's in your heart forever. He'll never be forgotten.
